Permanent hair removal in Cheshire
At Sensoria Beauty Clinic, we are committed to offering treatments that deliver real, long-lasting results.
When is comes to permanent hair removal, electrolysis stands out as the only medically recognised and licensed method.
In this blog, we will explore what electrolysis is, who can benefit from it, and how it
compares to laser treatments…. helping you decide if this option is right for you.
What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is a highly effective method of permanent hair removal that has been around for over one hundred years.
It works by inserting a very small, sterile probe into the hair follicle and delivering a small electrical pulse that destroys the follicle’s ability to produce hair. Once treated, the follicle cannot regenerate, ensuring permanent results.
The origins of electrolysis date back to the late 19th century, when Dr. Charles Michel first developed the method to treat ingrown eyelashes.
Since then, electrolysis has evolved into a sophisticated, versatile treatment suitable for all skin types and hair colours, making it the gold standard for those seeking a
permanent solution to unwanted hair.
Who is suitable for electrolysis?
The best way to determine if electrolysis is right for you is to book a consultation at Sensoria Beauty Clinic. During this session, one of our skilled specialists will assess your skin, hair type, and individual goals as well as doing a patch test, to create a
tailored treatment plan.
At Sensoria Beauty Clinic, we’re here to guide you every step of the way, ensuring your hair removal journey is safe, effective, and customised to your needs.

Why Laser Hair Removal Falls Short for Permanent Results
During recent years, laser hair removal has become a popular choice for those seeking hair removal.
While it can deliver significant results, it is not permanent and often requires ongoing treatments to maintain. It is best used for those looking for ’hair reduction’ rather than ’permanent removal’.
The laser targets the pigment in the hair shaft known as ‘melanin’, which means that people with light hair or darker skin tones may see limited success.
In contrast, electrolysis directly targets the hair follicle, rendering it incapable of producing new hair. This method is also far more inclusive, working on all hair types and skin tones, making it a superior choice for long-term results.
If you’re looking for a truly permanent solution, electrolysis is the only option.
Is electrolysis right for me?
Most people are suitable for electrolysis, but not everyone.
There are certain disorders and diseases which may prevent or restrict treatment which include conditions such as dermographia, haemophilia, diabetes, keloid scarring, the first trimester of pregnancy, some skin disorders in the area of treatment such as sunburn, rosacea, active acne etc.
In some instances your GP may need to be contacted for permission for some health conditions such as history of cancer, lupus etc.
Some medications such as blood thinning or steroid treatments can also prevent or restrict treatment.
Tattoos and permanent hair removal
If you would like hair removed permanently from an area with a tattoo, it must be at least twelve months old and fully healed.
As the diathermy current is released at the base of the follicle, to our knowledge, it should not affect the pigment of the tattoo.
However, depending on hair follicle depth at different stages of the hair growth, the needle tip will be placed nearer to the surface of the skin and possibly adjacent to the lower layers of the pigment placement, which in some instances could affect the pigment.
In some cases galvanic or blend electrolysis, using the chemical form of follicle destruction, may be the preferrable, and can be discussed at your initial consultation.
If you are planning a tattoo, and have unwanted hair in the area, it is often better to have
electrolysis first to remove the hair and create a ‘blank canvas’ for the tattoo artist to work with.
Transgender Electrolysis
We have a lot of experience in treating transgender women.
It is important to have trust in your electrologist and we have developed an intensive
programme for clearing facial hair to help you to achieve your goals.
Providing a safe and welcoming space for transgender ladies is important to us and you will feel relaxed and in professional hands.
Our transgender clients travel many miles to come and see us because of our expertise and professionalism.
Having our own car park conveniently situated at the front of the property is really helpful for anyone travelling a long distance.
We are also very near a bus stop where the number 84 bus from Chester stops.
Do I need a patch test for electrolysis?
Absolutely! At your initial consultation we will also remove a few hairs from the affected area so that we can tailor the treatment to your needs and assess your suitability for treatment.
At this initial assessment we gauge the correct needle size, needle type and current level to ensure that you do not have any adverse reactions and for your safety.
It is also a chance for you to feel the sensation of the treatment and to ask any questions about the process and procedures involved.
Photographs of your hair growth and skin condition are stored securely on your treatment log so that we can assess progress as we move through your treatment programme.
How much does a course of electrolysis cost?
How much a course costs depends on a variety of factors including the reason for the unwanted growth, underlying hormonal conditions, the size of the area to be treated and previous methods of removal.
Smaller areas such as the upper lip usually require far less treatment than, say, full legs or back.
If there has been a lot of plucking, waxing or threading in the treatment area then more treatments may be needed. This is because the hair follicles may be distorted, making it more difficult for the probe to be inserted into the follicle. This makes it time consuming with less hairs being able to be removed at each session.
The cost of your treatment plan will be discussed at your consultation.
How should I care for my skin after electrolysis
We always recommend that you keep the treated areas ‘cool, calm and clean’.
Following treatment we apply a soothing, calming Sterex aloe gel to reduce any redness and irritation. This needs to be reapplied a couple of times a day for the first 48 hours and can be purchased directly from us or from our online shop here.
For 48 hours after treatment, or until the skin has returned to normal, you should follow our aftercare guidelines which will be explained to you at your consultation appointment.
How long do the hairs have to be for electrolysis?
The hairs do not have to be very long, but long enough for us to see the direction and angle of the hair growth.
They also have to be long enough so that they can be grasped with tweezers to be lifted out of hair follicle after treatment.
We understand that growing the hairs can be difficult in some cases, especially on the facial area, but we give you guidance on how you can manage this.
